Mortgage Compliance Professional of the Month for July 2017: James McGee

Congratulations, James McGee, on being selected Mortgage Compliance Magazine’s Mortgage Compliance Professional of the Month – July 2017!

James McGee joined Colonial Savings Bank (Colonial) and serves as a Senior Compliance Analysis. In his current role, he is responsible for leading regulatory compliance and risk management activities throughout the Mortgage Servicing Department.  He works closely with the bank’s business partners, providing insight into the regulatory and legal requirements impacting their daily activities and ensuring adequate controls are in place to mitigate compliance risks.

James has 12 years of experience with Pre-Funding Reviews, Quality Control Audits, Early Payment Default Reviews, HMDA Audits, Legal Compliance Reviews, Servicing Transfer/Audits, DU, LP, FNMA, FHLMC Guidelines, FHA, VA, GNMA Guidelines, Loan Modifications, Bond Loan Programs and Business Process Improvements.

Harvey, Jr., Senior Vice President, Chief Compliance Officer for Colonial. “In addition to serving as an integral part of my compliance staff, James serves on the Bank’s Diversity and Inclusion Committee, chairs the Compliance Department’s Communications and Engagement Committee, and serves on the Board of Directors of the Dallas Area Compliance Association. In each capacity, he is doing a fantastic job.”

Prior to joining Colonial, James served in a variety of roles that deepened his understanding of regulatory requirements and the mortgage industry. As a QC-Compliance Analyst with FIS, he conducted quality control assessments of financial institutions’ mortgage loans and was responsible for managing enterprise-wide regulatory compliance activities by individual contribution and leading subordinates. As Senior Purchase Clearing Analyst with Caliber Funding, James managed the overall servicing relationship and was the primary point of contact for all non-GSE and GSE investors. Prior roles include Vice President/Repurchase Analyst with Citi; Investor Auditor/Senior Loan Review Analyst with Bank of America; and Senior Mortgage Underwriter at Citi.

James serves on the Board of Directors at the Dallas Area Compliance Association (DACA), Colonial’s Diversity and Inclusion Committee, and the Compliance Department’s Communication and Engagement Committee. In addition, James is Colonial’s representative to Junior Achievement of Fort Worth, Fort Worth Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, Fort Worth Black Chamber of Commerce and The National Association of Minority Mortgage Bankers of America (NAMMBA).

James is preparing for the Certified Regulatory Compliance Manager (CRCM) designation in 2017 and on track to complete the Certified Mortgage Banker designation (CMB) in 2018. He is enrolled at Western Governors University and working to complete a B.S. in Business Management.
